GMO Testing

About GMO Testing

Our GMO testing is Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) based with vigorous controls that eliminates false positives and negatives. In order to provide an accurate result, we use multiple primer sets and triplicates to insure testing integrity. Depending on your needs, we offer services in screening, identifying, and quantifying genetically modified wide range of the following commodities such as:

  • Soybean seeds
  • Soya oil
  • Soya lecithin
  • Soya meal flour
  • Sorghum seeds
  • Cumin seeds
  • Cotton seeds
  • Prawn feed
  • Castor oil
  • Rice
  • Rape seed etc.

GTH HCD Also involved in the wide range of bio-analytical and testing services. And equipped with a very high level of instrumentation such as PCR, Gel Doc, Refrigerated Micro centrifuge, UV Spectrophotometer etc. We serve you to test the genetically modified organism (GMO) of raw and processed agriculture products.

Genetically modified (GM) crops are increasingly being introduced into the world's food supply. Corners raised by consumers and regulatory agencies in various countries have highlighted the need for reliable and accurate testing for the presence of genetically modified components. New European Union regulations require all products containing more than 0.9 % GMO to be labeled as such. This labeling requirement also applies to food produced from GMOs irrespective of whether there is DNA or protein of GM origin in the final product, as well as to all genetically modified feed. An increasing number of companies are implementing similar regulations.

A genetically modified organism (GMO) is any organism in which the genes or other genetic material have been modified by using in vitro (recombinant DNA) techniques. To date, the most common genetic modifications in crop confer an herbicide or an insect resistance to the plant. This resistance is achieved through production of a novel protein encoded by the inserted DNA sequence. In plants that are genetically modified for commercial agricultural purpose, the recombinant sections of DNA that are artificially inserted into the natural plant genome have some common genetic elements that can be detected in laboratory analysis.

Nowadays GMO testing is more than just screening for a few genetically modified organisms. GMO test laboratories have to deal with more than 150 commercialized GMOs. Increasing GMO planting areas and complex approval situation in different countries require an optimized test portfolio and customized GMO test strategies. To meet the growing demand for the identification of GMO in food and agricultural products, MS Biotech Laboratories will now be able to provide the GMO testing services to agriculture and food processing industry with internationally accepted PCR method and meet the requirements of a challenging market situation.

GMO screening by PCR method is a fast and cost effective method for the detection of various GMOs. No specific identification of genetically modified organisms. To achieve this objective we will use the 35S (promoter) and NOS (Terminators) primers and qualitative and semi-quantitative determination is possible.

Standard turnaround time is five (5) working days after receipt of sample. Expedited analysis is available.

A minimum sample size of 1000 g is required for raw food and 100 - 200 g is required for processed food, depending on the particular commodity in question. A completed GMO analysis request form is required with each sample.

  • Provide the report for presence or absence of GMO.
  • Semi-Quantitative Analysis
  • Provide the reports for GMO content present above or below a single threshold e.g. >1% or <1%.
  • Limit of Detection: 0.01%
  • Limit of Quantification: 0.1%
